Overhead Sconces For Medicine Cabinet

I'm installing a new medicine cabinet - a frameless, 2 doors beveled mirror 25" W x 26" H x 5" D. There will be ~15" above the mirror to the ceiling.

There is no room on one side of the mirror for a sconce. So the plan is to install either a 2 or 3 sconce light above the mirror. A 2 sconce light would be about 18" wide, a 3 sconce light is about 26" wide.

Having no designer ability whatsoever, are there any rules of thumb for:

o How many lights to have? This will be the only source of light in the bathroom for the mirror.

o How far out the lights should hang with the 5" depth for the medicine cabinet?

Or is this just personal preference?

Thanks.
