Oven wiring

Hey all, my wall oven went out and my counter top stove is old and needing to be updated. I am just going to use the space where the old oven was for storage space and cut into the cabinet where the stove is now and install a 1 piece unit. What am I needing to do for wiring? Is the old wiring for the oven by itself suitable for the new unit? What do I do with the wiring from the counter top stove? Sorry if this sounds stupid, I am more of a wood worker than a wire runner. Thanx

Oven wiring

It depends on how the original units were wired.

In a newer house you will have a separate 30 amp circuit to both the oven and cooktop.

In some older houses they ran a 50 amp circuit and split it, generally at the oven or cooktop Jbox, to power the oven and cooktop together.

Your new range will require a 40/50 amp circuit.

How old is your house?

What size/type of wires do you have at each existing box?

Seperate breakers for oven/cooktop?

What size breaker(s)?
