Outside outlet stopped working

Outside outlet used only for x-mas lights the past week just suddenly quit working. Tested the receptacle...and open wires around it and nothing seems to be getting juice. ALL circuit breakers fine and all other outlets seem to be fine that are near this one...but inside the house.

ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Check for some gfcis in your house, try to test and reset them. I recommend looking in the bathrooms gfcis first.

If that fails, you need to trace the circuit for splices, could be a bad splice, but is most likely a gfci.

Look in garage for GFCI also. Usually found behind the pile stuff that hasn't moved in years or behind the beer fridge.

Do you know which breaker powers this outlet?

How are you testing for power?

I pulled the receptacle out from the wall....all the wires seem to be attached ok. But when it was tested...NO JUICE at all.

Not all connections may be dead.

Check for volts from the short slot (hot) to ground (e.g., the soil near the outlet).
Check for volts first, between the long slot (neutral) and between the ground hole and ground. If no volts, and there shouldn't be, then check for ohms to ground from the slot and ohms to ground from the ground hole.

If both hot and neutral are both open it could be an upstream GFI.

How do you know that resetting the GFI actually restored power?

There is an inside plug immediately behind the outside one that works....Would this one be on the same circuit??...we assume it is

Try what yoyizit said. If there no resistance reading from white to ground, and no volts from black to ground then a gfci must have tripped.

Find the breaker to that outlet and turn power off, open the outlet. Whats inside?

Keep in mind that your GFCI tripped for a very good reason. There was current flowing from hot to ground, most likely outside. You need to make sure all outdoor receptacles and connections are properly protected from the weather.
Never, ever defeat the GFCI. It will save your life!!

Except when it's not (nuisance tripping, false positives).
