Outlets Out, but....

Greetings--

Just got home and was informed that the plugs in the bathroom werent working. Light hairdryer ect dont work when plugged in. They work in other plugs.

No tripped breakers. No tripped GFI anywhere in there or the house.


What about this-- any suggestions ?

In order of likelihood:

tripped GFCI
tripped circuit breaker
faulty GFCI
faulty connection in the circuit

Do you know where the GFCI for that circuit is located? Does it have power?

Did you turn each circuit breaker all the way off and then back on?

Do you know which circuit this is on and whether any other outlets or lights on that circuit are working?

Tripped GFCI is the most comomn cause. If house is built before mid 80s then look in garage, outside, other bathrooms, basement. Most of the time is is found inthe garage behind the pile of stuff that never gets moved or the beer fridge.

When was your house built? Sounds like aluminum wiring...or maybe push in terminals on a receptacle.

Built in the 90s. No Al wiring. All of the sockets and switches I've seen al use screw terminals.

Recheck the breakers, I've been on more service calls for tripped breakers, and everyone always insist its not tripped.

But, i'm still going for a tripped GFCI.

Check for a gfci on the circuit. Try to replace the circuit breaker, sometimes those die. Check for loose connections in pigtails and terminals along that circuit. Check for a loose connection on the common, and hot connection at the common bus and the breaker.

When replacing circuit breakers you can do it while the main is on, im not sure how yours is like....If you do it while its on then please switch the breaker to an off position. Most breakers wiggle out.
