outlet under kitchen sink

I am building a new home and ran into an issue. I need to have an oulet located under the kitchen sink, there is no 2x4 wall behind the counter. (kind of an island) I do not see a way to put in a box for the outlet??? I know that this is done but I'm not understanding which way to proceed.

worst case build a dummy box against the back cabinet wall so you can put a box inside. frame with 2 x 4, cover with matching 1/4 ply. Mount box on 2 x

I like your idea of building the dummy wall, but it would not work in this case because it would create an imbalance in the wall that will connect with the cabinets. I actually spoke with a friend of mine wo is an electrician (commercial) but she had an idea of running the wire under the cabinets and making a box inside the cabinet.
Does this sound like a good idea?

Do you mean under the sink as in the cabinet like for a dishwasher or garbartor. If so why not use a surface mounted box.

thats what I was looking for. I did not know they made such a box.

Now I have a follow up question....because the cabinets are not in before the electrical inspection, how do I wire this to pass inspection?

I am thinking that I would basically leave the wire rolled up in the area.... one end attached to the switch and the other end rolled up?

If you brought the wire up from under the floor you can just roll it up for now, or you can leave it under the floor if you have an unfinished basement or crawl space. Drill down through the cabinet when it comes in shove the wire up through it. You dont have to have it in a box yet, They will understand that it is for an island

Your 1st inspection (rough) just need to show the wire is there ready for cabinet placement. Your final inspection will be after the kitchen is done, where the outlet under the sink will need to be there.

PS - if this is an island free-standing, you do need a 20a gfci protected outlet on the SABC (Small appliance branch circuit) on this island somewhere to satisft the code requirements for receptacles on every counterspace larger than 24".

Long, sorry I wasn,t clear. What the rest have said is what I did just not clear :} Under sink is normal everyday. Surface mount or a partitiion to hang it in same o same O :}:}:}:}:}}
