Outlet Problem!!!

Hi all,
I'm new, and just moved into my own place. I bought a decent computer and was told a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Source) was a good idea to keep my comp in tip top condition. My problem is that the plug is straight and not a 90 degree one. So with the weight of the heavy cord and occational bumping of the plug it tends to want to come out and unplug itself. Since i have important equipment on this UPS i'm trying to find a solution to keep this plug in. Does anyone know if there is a lock or harness that can keep my plug secure, or if it is kosher to use an extension cord... Anything will help at this point. Thanks all in advance.

sounds like you should just replace the recepticle, sounds like the wipers are worn and it's time for a replacement.

You may very well need a new receptacle, however I have a similar problem with those heavy wall wart style plugs, and I use a power strip that sits on the floor. If you get one with a built in surge protector you are even better covered. just plug your CPU and monitor into the UPS and every thing else into the power strip.

But can the ups be plugged into the surge protector? It has Auto Volt Reg. on it and surge protection. Can i do UPS to extension cord to outlet?

A short extension cord will work just fine, as long as it's 3-wire grounded type. And you are correct, the UPS shouldn't be plugged into a surge protector. Excerpt from an APC instruction manual;

I did a little research and found that hospital rated outlets, usually the ones with a triangle on them will do the trick. It is required for all those to have a minimum pull force on a cord of 10 pounds. so these outlets can hold heavy duty cord. You can find these at Home Depot or any electrical vendor. Their expensive but if you have vital equip. their the only fool proof solution.
