I'm trying to power an under cabinet light. It has to be hard wired. I have an outlet right underneath that cabinet.
Can I pigtail the light to the wires already being used by the outlet or is that a bad idea. I want to use the outlet as well. I don't want to get rid of it. So basically the outlet and the light will pull from the same hot wire. I don't want to run new wiring from the basement because it seems like too much work for a cabinet light.
I am not familiar with the NEC, but i know up here in Canada a kitchen rectipical can not be used for anything else.
So in your case that would be a no no up here, not sure what the NEC says but i beleive it is similar.
