I've seen in many restaurants/commercial buildings electric outlets which are mounted directly on the exterior of a wall, with the piping on the exterior of the wall as well.
Is this allowed in residential applications? In my case I would have the actual EMT pipe mounted directly on the dry wall and the switch box on the drywall as well. It will be hidden behind a corner TV unit, so I am not worried about appearance and it would be much easier to use this approach then to break open the dry wall, drill a hole down through the bottom wall plate and pull the pipe through from the crawl space below.
