outlet in bathroom cabinet OK?
I would like to install a GFCI outlet on the side of my bathroom vanity cabinet. Is this permitted by NEC? Any extra rules relating to running the wire? Thanks

What would it be used for?

I don't know of anything in the NEC prohibiting this. How do you plan on running the wire? Any chance of a picture? :) |
There is nothing against this, but any exposed wires in the cabinet must be encased in conduit, either flexible or ridgid. We install outlets in the sides of cabinets all the time for kitchen islands.

Thanks for your comments. It will be used for a hair dryer, mostly. There is a tall linen cabinet next to the counter. I will run the wire up from the basement (using conduit :) ). The outlet will be recessed in the cabinet itself, just above the counter level. I think it's a go. Any other thoughts?
