Outlet in Bath Vanity

Can an outlet be installed on the front of a bathroom vanity?

I want to move an existing outlet and possibly a vanity light switch to the front (similiar to an outlet on a kitchen island) of a new bathroom vanity. I would not have to rewire anything as the existing romex is plenty long enough.

Just want to know if there is a code for bathrooms (such as a certain distance away from sink or so many inches above or below) that says it can't be there.

Thanks,
Greg

Your location may play a part in this, but as far as the NEC goes, the receptacle would need GFI protection but not the switch.

The receptacle is already GFI. When you talk about location, are you referring to what "local code" might be?

I don't think any local US codes would come into play, but if you are in Canada, they do have different rules when it comes to bathrooms.

I'm not a Canuck so I thank you very much. This should be easy.

Thanks,
Greg
