Outdoor Light Fixture

I just bought a light fixture and would like to install it outside on my wall. The problem is that it is a downwards wall mountable fixture and requires me to add a crossbar. My outside wall is brick. Can I use a drill to screw on the crossbar to the wall. I know with drywall, you have to searh for studs. Is it the same or can I just drill the screws ANYwhere in close proximity to the outlet box. Thankx.

Do you have a box there now? Are you thinking of just running a wire through the wall?

Yes, I do have a outlet box there currenly. I am just replacing the fixture. No.. I am not just running a wire through the wall. I would like to use the wall to hold the light fixture.

Use lead shields to use the screws that came with the fixture or TapCons and paint the heads to match.
