Other uses for phone lines in home?

So I have Rj11 throughout my home. I don't use then as I either use my cell phone or the cordless phone. My alarm system is cellular, so I don't seem to have a use for all the plugs around the house. Anyone have any creative ideas? I wish they are RJ45 but oh well.

How old is your house. If there is a possibility they were wire with CAT cable perhaps you could change the jacks to RJ45?

Maybe you can use them as network connections. Only 4 wires are used on the RJ45 jack - 1, 2, 3, & 6. RJ11 is more open to interference, but might work surprisingly well - or not. There's only one way to find out. I've used them on a few occasions with mixed results.

One was a dedicated workstation that needed to connect to my network for an FTP connection to get a log daily. It worked flawlessly for years on an old wire left over from an alarm system that ran between the 1st & 5th floors with a lot of other wires. Another never worked well & was just between 2 systems on a 25' bar with nothing to interfere. It was a real pain to run a new wire, but that's what I wound up having to do. Go figure. I never could.

You can buy pigtails to make the transition. I've just wired them directly, but the tools would make that pricey for a one-off project.

Untwisted Cat3 telephone cable can be used for 10Mb Ethernet. However, that's slower than most wireless networks these days. 100Mb Ethernet will "often" work on short runs of Cat3, but expect a lot of packet retransmits -- for web surfing and email, you probably won't notice a difference; streaming video is more likely to have issues.

What else to do with the wires? I've often wished for an intercom so I don't have to yell across the house. Your phone lines are probably in the wrong place for that, though.
