Opinion what to do

I want to install a little shelving light as like a pot light in my shelving area, the light will be installed on the top shelving. I would like to connect the wiring to my dimmer switch which is controlling my 3 pot lights in the ceiling. So when I turn on the dimmer switch it will also turn on the one shelving light. Here is the issue, most of the pot lights I want requires them to be plugged in, the hardwired ones using the 2/14 wire seems to be a bigger light and just will look ugly.

I want to go with these

However I am pretty sure you cannot install a outlet that is attached to a dimmer switch because lets say we do move and the new owners decide to use the outlet for something else and them not knowing about the dimmer switch, it will most likely cause their device to burn out if power id reduced. What is my other options if I want to use the dimmer switch to controller the pot light sin the ceiling and the shelving light. Switching to a normal switch is not an option.

Here is the pic of the built in shelving I did

Lots of choices out there.

If you use one of the puck lights from this set of three (since NO external transformer is required), I bet you could figure out how to hardwire it.

Lutron, and I'm sure others, have special receptacles and cords intended to use with dimmers.

They have a "bump" which keeps one from using a standard plug.

I guess I can get this set from Lowes that Ken mentioned and Hardwired it to my dimmer that is currently there. I was planning on replacing my Halogen pot lights to LED but when I bout some LEDs and turn the dimmer down the LED would flicker and the dimmer switch would make noise. Is it true that you cant put LEDs on a dimmer or do you need a special kind of dimmer switch?

Also if I do go with these pot lights Utilitech Pro Plug-in Cabinet LED Puck Light Kit I can simply split the wire and connect it to a 2/14 wire right? I would assume I would have to put in into a junction box?

Thanks

Peter

You need LEDs that are stated as being dimmable. It is possible that you need a special dimmer as well.
