occasional loud speaker 'thump'

I have a stereo minisystem. Every now and then (about 2-3 times a week), it emits a loud 'thumping' sound from the subwoofers, accompanied by a momentary static 'thump' from the speakers.

This has only been happening since I moved into my new apartment. I haven't tried new outlets yet, but I'm wondering if power surges or an 'unclean' power line could cause this?

I read here were not having an equipment ground could cause that. Don't know.

I may go home hungry, but not tired and hungry.
