No Signal From Tv Cable

Here is a great forum where you would probably get some more technical help

DBSTalk.com

A couple of thoughts. What satellite service are you using? It sounds like your trying to feed your Over The Air signal to each TV using the second cable? They have a device called a diplexer that will let you feed a second signal into one cable - you then install a second diplexer near your TV to split the signal back out. May be away to get around your problem. Also, some of the older DirecTV receivers/tivo's required two lines - the newer dual tuner receivers only require one - perhaps an upgrade is in order?

No Signal From Tv Cable

TO GIT AND OTHERS:

Thanks for your thoughts. Please see my initial threads. My problem is a cable that has been in place now for about 12 years. It worked great until a few months ago, when I disconnected it from the sat (and connected to the antenna) for a few days. Using an ohmeter the cable is intact--checked from both ends with no electronics attached. However I no longer can receive a sat signal over this cable. We initially had two separate cable systems placed---one for the sat and one for a whole house antenna. We have not bought a regular sat receiver for years now. When we first used Tivos, we did use the diplexers to connect the antenna, but now for 3-4 years, we have used the local channels provided thru the sat and the diplexers are completely out of the system. All my Tivos do use two cables for the two sat lines (Directv using Hughes Tivos, all Series 2 now).

My problem is the cable seems and checks out as being intact from end to end (and I believed it to be one full length cable) and yet I cannot get the sat signal (on a cable that has been used without obvious changes for years). I literally have cables going all over this house. The multiswitch is a 2 x 16, so I had 16 white and 16 black cables in the system originally. We currently have three Tivos connected. I removed the box from the wall behind my bedroom TV and the malfunctioning cable is heading up towards the attic. So I checked the attic (no small place) and there is an obvious splitter up about 20 feet with wires coming from the antenna and ? other locations. I have yet to find the time and energy (both limited since chemo some years ago) to climb up into the attic. I have intentions to see if the problem cable is part of this setup and amenable to repairing. If not, I am soon going to lay a new cable thru the basement to the utility room and multiswitch.

Thanks again for all the help and ideas.

No Signal From Tv Cable

SUCCESS! Sort of--there were actually two splitters in the attic combining two tv antennas with an FM radio antenna. One of the cables tracked thru the attic to the bedroom. I placed another full length cable (relatively easily) thru the basement and have my sat. sig back.

There is a scientific principle that the simplest solution to a problem is the most likely solution.

Again I would like to express my appreciation for all the help and thoughts.
