No power to light switch

There is no ac voltage at the light switch. I removed one lead to the light switch and checked for live voltage coming to the light switch. Zero reading. Checked the main fuse box for the light fuses. Fuses ok. Other lights are working fine in the household. Light switch has a potentiometer to adjust brightness of the light bulb. Please help.

Not an electrician, but I've ran into several lights that ran the neutral down to the switch and back up. Do you have power at the light fixture?

How many wires are in the box? If you only have two (1 white/1black) you have what is known as a switch leg.
Do you have a ground wire in the cable that is terminated under a screw at the back of the box.
If so, you can check for voltage incoming by measuring from the box to the white wire. Then, if you operate the switch to the ON position the voltage should leave on the black wire.
This is assuming that the wiring was done according to convention.

Have you tried to replace the dimmer with a standard switch to test? Is the bulb good? Between what two points are you checking for voltage?
