Nicked romex cable behind drywall

I was drilling into drywall and accidently drilled into a romex cable, tripped the breaker. The cable that i hit is used for my refrigerator. I opened up the white coating(exposing insulation and all 3 wires) and noticed a nick on the black wire the size of a pencil tip. After researching different options I decided to use liquid electrical tape and wrapped it with reg electrical tape. But now I am concern and wondering if I should have done it differently? Should I run a new cable? add a junction box? THe cable runs to a nearby electrical socket. Any feedback would be truly appreciated? Thank you all in advance!!

Don't know what the pros will say, but I think you'll be fine.

As long as the copper wasn't damaged, electrical tape will be fine. The tape should have a 600v rating matching the insulation rating of the conductors. The outer jacket is not insulation so taping the is no problem either. If the copper conductor was compromised in anyway it will have to be spliced using an approved means and be accessible.

Run a new cable. As soon as the existing one shorted out, it damaged the copper. You are just begging for problems down the road.
