Newbie trying to make a lamp!

I want to make a custom lamp for my room consisting of only wire and a lamp socket.

I've done some research and I believe I need 14/2 wire (this is the one I'm looking at but haven't purchased yet).

Then of course, I need the lamp kit. (Are the wire and kit compatible?)

Now I know I need to connect the hot and neutral wires properly, but is there any other thing I should know before I embark on my journey? I don't feel like dying in an electrical fire (that's one of my LEAST favorite things to do).

Additionally, how do I properly attach the wire to a plug, and what should I buy for this?

Thanks in advance!

Your trying to make a pendent light.

Buy the time you spend all the money on all the parts needed you could have bought a whole fixture that would be UL approved and not shock you or cause a fire.

If you don't want to hardwire it into the ceiling, google "swag lamp".
