a new trac light

I want to install a track light in a condo living room. there is no light in the ceiling now, there is no attic. there is a plug on the next wall about 12 feet away that is next to the slider door, which would be a nice place for a switch. any suggestions?

Do you own the condo ?
Where are you located ?
Are you asking how to wire it.....or ?

this is for a friend, that I've done a lot of work for over the years. She wants this in a place that is difficult. This is in So Cal, Tarzana, I'm not sure how to feed the wire from the light location 12+ feet to the adjoining wall and then down to the existing plug. with perhaps a switch inbetween.

Your best bet is to cut a hole in the same stud bay as the outlet
Use an old work box to put the switch box in
Run power from the outlet below
Also best to have the trac light connection right above that stud bay
Running 12' along a wall will require cutting holes in the drywall & drilling holes thru the studs to run wire
Are they wood studs, not metal ?
And a wood frame/sheetrock ceiling & not concrete ?
If concrete then you may be stuck with conduit/wire mold for running wire

yeah, that's what I'm thinking too, I was just hoping that there might be an easier way. I'm not that good at matching the textured wall after the installation is finished.
thanks! this project is a month off, so I'll collect the stuff and see how it goes.
