Hey guys, I have a bedroom that I am adding outlets to and the exterior walls are plank construction. Is it possible to route out the 2 1/4"x2 3/4" for a box to fit inside the wall with a hole drilled underneath for romex to run or do have have to do 'on wall' boxes?
Perfectly okay to cut out holes for electrical boxes in wood plank wall so long as the planks are tongue-and-groove or otherwise braced or held in place after the cutting. The box itself (it may have metal tabs on it) may not be the only thing that holds the planks in place.
