new ceiling fixture

Avid DIYer here trying to set up a nursey for my new baby daughter. I am trying to put up a chandelier in the center of the room. i figured there would be a problem b/c the only switch in the room controlled an outlet on the other side. there was wiring to the ceiling for a fan/light, which i connected as i installed the light. obviously, the switch does not control the light. i went into the attic and found the wire, which apprears as though the preson who lived here previously just ran the wire from another room in the attic. the problem i have is all the existing wiring in the house is run through conduits and i have no idea how to splice in my light wire. i know where the condit is running from the switch to the outlet but i do not know how to get inside and make the wiring changes. i know i'm probably not using the correct terms but any help would be appreciated. as a student with a baby on the way, i'd prefer not to pay an electrician and just do this myself.

If I understand correctly, you find a wire in the middle of the ceiling, which has power, but currently not being used....

if this is the case, you need to install a switch to make this powered wire being able to control by the switch.

so you need to do some fishing in the wall from the attic, that is doable, you need to have very long and thick drill bits to drill a hole on the wood plate then drop the wire to form the switch, I done that for my cable TV, it is easier than it described.

anyhow, once done that, everything else should be easy, just how to put connection together... but before going further... please let us know if this is the situation ....

Is it conduit or just armored cable? In other words, is it flexable or rigid, like a pipe?
