Need longer reach 'old' work boxes

Trying to straighten out my no outlet OLD house. It has plaster and lath walls with drywall over top of that. my wall varys some from 1 1/4" to a full 1 1/2" thick. The only boxes at Menards and other like stores here is about 1" max. reach to clamp those ears on the back of the wall. Guy sold me some longer screws,,,THAT didnt work cause they were different thread pitch and couldnt turn screws.

How do YOU fix this??

You could try metal old work boxes with "F" straps, some people call them madison straps.

With walls 1 1/2" thick, I don't thing the "F" straps will work. Try boxes with integral screws that can attach to studs. Smart Box is one type, Arlington Industries makes another.

I have some that are 3" long, when I use them on a standard wall I have to cut them or they go down the side and around the back of the box.
