Need info on pricing electrical service...

Hello, well I just started working for myself as my own electrician, was wondering if anyone outthere knows of a book or resource where i can get detail pricing for electrical service. I will be the one providing the service just not too sure of what to charge the customer.

I am located in illinois, if anyone could help thank you sooo much.

David,
You may want to join some of the professional boards like contractor talk to discuss pricing with other professionals.

I suspect that pricing is going to be different in your area than most others due to all the code requirements in the Chicago land area.

You sure picked one helluva time to hang out your shingle! You have to charge based on what you can do a particular job for. This may necessitate an analysis of how long it has taken you to do similar jobs in the past. You also have to factor in any overhead you may have: shop space, truck maintenance, CPA, insurance, etc. You can formulate an hourly rate, or you can go with one of the flat-rate books out there, if you are comfortable charging $350 to change a receptacle. Or work up your own flat-rate book.

Also, there are some electrician-only websites that you can ask around on for more advice. But ask wisely, cause they will eat you alive if not careful!

www.electriciantalk.com is one.

Licensed and insured?
Makes a big difference what you can charge and what you want to lose!
