Need Help Wiring New Celing Fan Switch

Hi all,

This is my first topic on DIY Forums. My wife and I just purchased a new house and we want to replace the simple one flip switch (fan and light control) with a switch that can control fan and lighting separately.

I'm not sure how to connect the wires since they are not the same colors.

I've attached pics for reference.

Thanks!

Jason

You need another wire from the switch to the fan for seperate controls.

Need Help Wiring New Celing Fan Switch

Actually, a simple solution exists for your problem. You just have to think outside the box.

Instead of using a wall control only, consider using a wall-mounted remote unit. IT allows for one to use an existing 2-wire cable, and splits up the signal into separate fan/light wires at the fan unit itself.

The receiver mounts inside of the fan canopy, and a similar looking wall control replaces your wall switch. An optional wireless remote control unit may also be supplied.
