Need help with outlet
I currently have a 2 prong outlet with a surge supressor bar plugged into it (I have a 3>2 prong converter on the end :D). There is an illuminated light on it stating that there is some sort of ground or wiring problem with the outlet. I know I need to test to see if the box is grounded or not and what to do in those cases.
What I'd like to know is that if the box is not grounded and I change the outlet to a 3 prong GFCI will it solve the grounding problem and not illuminate that light on the surge supressor bar?
If it doesn't, what can I do short of rewiring the outlet?
Although you can safely install a GFCI in a two wire outlet, that will not solve the surge suppressor problem as the surge suppressor requires a ground to function correctly. If your outlet is not grounded, you will need an electrician to do some rewiring.
