Question

Need help installing ceiling fan

My husband is trying to install a ceiling fan in our new home. We had the builder wire/brace for a ceiling fan, and we figured we could install the actual fan ourselves.

There are four wires in the ceiling:
-Black
-White
-Bare
-Red

He hooked up the fan mount to the corresponding black, white and bare wires following the directions. But we are not sure what to do with the red wire? This is his first time doing electrical work and we want to figure it out.

Any suggestions??

Need help installing ceiling fan

Is there one switch for the fan and another for the light?
Is there two differant switches that can run this one fan?

Need help installing ceiling fan

I *think* there is one switch for the fan and one switch for the light, because up until now one switch has controlled the lone light bulb in the wire/brace, and the other switch has controlled nothing.

Black to Black
White to White
Bare to Green
Red to Blue
