Need advice on fixing an "old" problem...

All right, here is the scoop. There is a Pole Barn built on a property complete with electricity and the meter that comes with. Couple years later a small cabin is built with the electric being a circuit from the Pole Barn. Couple years down the road from that a two bedroom addition is put on the cabin turning it from a studio style into a two bedroom, one bath. Now quite a few years down the road I live here.. Popping breakers and having to run extension chords from different parts of the house to play X-box.
There is a "Box" on the outside of the Pole Barn where a metal pipe holding the main power chord from the house comes out of the ground and attaches to the bottom of the box allowing you to get to the cables. From there it goes out right, attached to the side of the Pole Barn. After about 5 ft. it cuts into the Pole Barn on a 90, then cuts up on a 90 finally making its destination to the breaker panel which I believe is a "Split-Bus" Panel. Now the problem lays between the "Box" on the outside of the Pole Barn and the Breaker Panel. The chord from the house that goes into the bottom of the box I believe is a 6 or 8 sized cable(?), then it is spliced. The final 15' or so is ran with smaller wire, guessing size 12 or 14. It is def. showing signs of heat stress. Won't go into it but its not good. We have taken precautions with just using less power.

Now my questions...
I was wondering if this stress would result in my bill going up? Always have heard the less stress the less your bill is going to be.

Also I was wondering the scale of project it would be to get direct power and a meter to my house. It seems very inefficient to be running our power from this Pole Barn.

I would greatly appreciate input on this, it is an urgent deal for me with the heat issue. I am in the process of getting an electrician to fix the "Small chord issue". More or less wondering about getting the power ran to my house instead.

You need three things, a real electrition to come look at this, he will pull a permit to install a new meter base and panel if needed.
The power company will come out and install the main line from the pole to the meter base.

Seems like things are a little messed up if you have the ability run a new service to the house. Why don't you post some pics so we can see what's goin on?

Everything after this sounds really fuqued up.
Take some photos and post them.

NO
Watts is watts.

Also I was wondering the scale of project it would be to get direct power and a meter to my house. It seems very inefficient to be running our power from this Pole Barn.

which gets the service and which is the sub is immaterial...
that it be done well and the right size is what matters

I'd say that you need an entirely new service and distribution...
and very likely new panel and new house wiring too.

It's gonna be a BIG and spendy job.

Does this process include quite the bill with it?? If you know a round-a-bout number that would be helpful. Also do you think that getting a new meter would change my electric bill for the better? I will have pictures here shortly, very happy about the responses!

The barn stuff (service, meter, big panel, etc) looks good.
From the (D) feed to the house everything else looks like crap.

This assumes the identifying of unmarked things is done correctly.

The two pictures up top are from inside my house. Then the rest are either the outside of the Pole Barn or the inside. Hopefully this helps.

Nope. As it seems I goofed up on my identifying.
Get your actual licensed electrician in there as soon as you can.
