n00b question - cabinet lighting

Hey all-

Been doing woodworking off and on for a while, but not so much on the electrical.

I am currently building an entertainment center, 4 pieces. Main unit, two shelf units, and a "bridge" display section that goes between the two pier shelf units. The upper part of each is disguised by a trim panel in the upper 1/4 of the top shelf/box area.

I would like to wire them all with lights, but not sure how to go about it. The idea was a CFL in each "box", all wired down to a rocker switch that goes to a switched outlet. Alternatively I can just wire them to a plug that goes to the outlet.

I tried google searching for wiring CFL's, and all I got were a bunch of marijuana growing forums/plans.

Anyone have any tips/pointers/how tos/ or even look here you idiot?

Thanks!

John

n00b question - cabinet lighting

There are many options available,
CFLs are usually bulky,
Will they fit in ?
This is a good place to use LEDS.
Small, compact, low in profile, low heat.
Try using some white LEDs,
Powered by a low voltage plug pack.
LED cabinet lights is a good place to start.

Hrm. Haven't looked at LED's. I'll have way enough room for the CFL's, but if the LED units are pretty much plug and play, then I can also unplug them later if I need to take the unit down.

I think I will probably go this route. Not going to spend $500 on 5 LED lights for this.

I have seen battery operated led cabinet lights,
at cheap hardware chains, also at discount stores.
there cheap as .
Search around you will find them.
You can eaisily convert them to plug pack powered.
