My Dream job in the electrical industry

Now this is something I think would be a never boring job....kinda cool whether its true or not

BTW.....The job I'm talking about is the pilots.

It's true, for sure. Not for me, though.

I'd seen a similar video of these types of operations, but the commentary was much less engaging. Nice find Stubbie!

I wonder how much money they make.

Stubbie 12-03-2007 12:31 PM

I was wondering the same thing. I was also wondering where they find someone that is willing to grab onto and walk along those high voltage lines. I was also wondering what the first person who tried this was thinking?

I think we should let OBL try the next great high voltage repair only turn the source off..... give him 30 seconds to get the suit on.....then.... oh sorry got a little carried away..... I wonder if a million volts and 100,000 amps would make you look like Edward Scissorhands for a brief nano-second?

arichard21 12-04-2007 07:48 AM

that is just wild.

cool to watch, but you would NEVER find me up there.

J. V. 12-04-2007 01:17 PM

What was the reason they were up there? Checking the integrity of the lines?

Clutchcargo 12-04-2007 02:02 PM

Yes, they look for possible failure points. I've seen them on a documentary before doing line repairs. The most dangerous place on the line for them to be is near the utility pole. I wonder if there are any long term health risks.

KUIPORNG 12-04-2007 02:46 PM

EVEN being the pilot is a brave thing consider electricity can travel and what if a big wind blow the helicopter onto one of those high voltage lines...

Andy in ATL 12-04-2007 03:58 PM

I'd be scared of the big wind! I don't think the electricity affects the helicopter at all. It, the pilot and the lineman are all the proverbial "bird on the wire". Whether of not the EMF would cause long term health problems is a tough one that I'm not qualified to speak on.
