murray orange 200 amp main pannel shutoff

If the wire is rated it will have a marking on it. You can use that marking to determine the allowable ampacity of the wire.

Not that i know of dont have code book with me right now but dont think you can. are you going alum or copper ? They both will bend pretty easy Take a piece of pipe that the wire fits in and bend it to what you want should work i have done this before

I looked at wire when I was there both aluminum and copper 3 guage they are both very stiff I can probably bend them around to fit as I will have to splice them to the old wires and than come down the side of the box ( on the inside of cource) across the bottom and up the side and than bend them to go into the end of the 200 amp breaker. I was wondering if it would be possible to use 3 guage welding lead wire which has much finer strands and is much more flexable with a much heavier insulation than the wire at Home depot and still stay in code. Thanks Al
Just want to make sure that with 200 amp service you must have to use 3/0 CU or 4/0 Al conductor you can not use the #3 AWG with 200 amp service you will burn up the wire way before the breaker will react to it.

Merci,Marc

Can't you find any slack in those cables? I would consider unscrewing the panel from the studs to see if I could easily slide the whole mess up a few inches to gain some wire.

Don't use welding cables or anything other than the right product which is #2/0 or #3/0 depending on your location/application, not #3

Read the existing cable and you can go one size smaller if you are going to copper.

PS

1) That is going to be a mess if you extend the feeders down around the bottm. I would yank them out, cut them really short, install the splice couplings, heat shrink and tape them, then reinstall them in a direct line to the breaker, possibly using a new KO directly above the breaker on the right side of the panel.

2) WTF is that coming out the bottom, individual conductors?

Exactly as "frenchelectrician" said. I was puzzled myself. If this is an Overhead service. Where is the (invisible) "Drop"?! Merci Beaucoup Monsieur Electricien de la Republique Francaise!!! You learn new things every day!

I am sorry for the confusion it is my ignorance on the correct terminology of wire sizes. I will us either #3/0 or #4/0 for the extensions. It was those sizes of wire I was looking at at home depot that I mentioned was quiet stiff. I agree that it will be very crowded if I run the extended cabls around the inside of the box, Tomorrow I will look and see if I think there is enough room to do as 220/221 sugested I tried but there is no slack in the wires coming into the box. I will also check out the sugestion of moving the box up Thanks for all the good Ideas I appreciate the help. Al
