Multiple electrical failures

Our Hvac compressor, spa and bathroom light and plugs all went out on the same day - should we check power surge or lightning damage with insurance company?

You need to check the wiring, testing for the proper voltage (120 volts for lights, ordinary receptacles), testing between hot and neutral. The air conditioner circuit nees to mearusure 240 volts between the two hot wires.

Start at the breaker and work along the circuit in case you run into loose connections where the circuit wire goes into an outlet box and then continues on to another outlet box or switch.
States can help recovery from hurricanes and tornadoes by not requiring due digence or prompt and timely correction of substandard conditions, and by providing continued liability insurance where companies drop homeowners.

Sounds like you lost a branch or a phase.
Loose connections are also possible.
Faulty breaker / switchgear.
Even a surge on one phase only.
Call the insurance company and find out there procedure,
You will probably need an electricains report.
