Moving oven and cooktop to island; need electrical advice
They are electric (obviously), and I am going to run new wiring through crawl space under floor up into the island. The installation instructions do not cover where to put junction boxes in an island, only for wall installatioin.

Wall inst. say place junction 12" below counter for cooktop. For an island, should I run metal conduit up out of floor? Should I affix junction boxes inside back of island behind oven or at base? Any other special considerations or code issues on how to secure conduit, safety issues affixing to wood, etc.?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I want to do this right.

I always use Greenfield (flexible metal conduit) for the leads from the appliance with stranded THHN wiring to a junction box below the floor and secure the wiring to the back of the cabinet with one hole metal straps.

The greenfield is a great idea, while there is no requirement for physical protection inside a cabinet. (greenfield does not provide such protection even if it were required.)

Just be sure that the wood you mount to is thick enough to take a screw, and that your screws are not too long. We do not want screw sticking out of the cabinet finish. I have in the past glued a wood strip inside the cabinet with liquid nails and mounted the stuff to it using small screws.

Thanks for the quick response! That's pretty much what I was hoping, but I was concerned code requirements were going to make it more complex.

The appliances both have flexible metal conduit from the appliance which connect to the junction box. So if I understand correctly, I can just use flexible metal conduit from the floor to the junction boxes which I will mount inside the back of the island cabinet.

Thanks again for your help.
