Moving feed line and mast...

My service line from the pole runs over my yard into the corner of my garage where the panel is. It is only about 71/2 ft. off the ground and a sore thumb to view. My home is located on a slight grade with the wire from the pole being on the downside of the grade.

I would like to have the wire run into the corner of the home which is about 35ft. from the current panel/mast. That would position the wire very near the actual property/fence line and clean up the view/hazard associated with running across the yard. The attic is hand framed and very open if that helps.

Can this be done with out having the panel relocated?

In my area, you mess with the service, then the house has to be brought up to current code. It can be done, but would it not be easier to go underground from where it exsists now?

The house is actually going through a complete permitted re-wire very shortly. I was just hoping to not have to move the panel to an inside bedroom in order to move the service line.

I'm not familiar with anyone in my area going to "underground". In my case it would involve going under the balcktop surface street, under a 5ft. rockery and then under about 30ft. of front yard. I would assume the service line would then enter the garage through the sill plate and come up underneath the panel? That sounds like a ton of money to me!

The under ground would come up into the meter just as it comes down the wall into the meter now. It may not be work out to be the best thing to go underground. You can do what you want as without moving the panel.

One thing to keep in mind is the POCO makes their own rules. Each one is different so you may be well served to call them and have someone come out and look at what you have and what you want to do before sinking a bunch of money into anything.
