Move light box

Hi, all
I'm moving outlet for lamp in bathroom from ceiling to the wall.

You think I can simply run 12 romex to new place from old box thru joists?
In our 25 yo building in CA, old fixture still has metal tubing, is it OK per code.
I also know that I have to keep old box accesible, right ?

Tx

If the building is wired in conduit it is very likely that you would be required to install any new electrical to the same standards (no romex).

Remember, there are other families at risk in a multi family structure. Have it done right.

Almost anywhere lese in USA(except Chicago) you can do what you plan. I don't know if conduit is a requirement in CA. Check with the local code department.

I assumed that she is in a multi family condo or something since she implied it was existing conduit.

The association MAY have restrictions on dooing your own electrical work (they SHOULD have IMO).

If you insist on doing it yourself, please use MC cable/connectors and do it right. It is a little more challaging but not that big of a deal.
