I have a center ridge beam, roughly 6x14 spanning our raised ceiling. The rock will hit the beam about 10" from the top, leaving approx 6"x4" of the beam exposed. We will be installing (2) hanging lights from the beam.
What is the best way to rough in the wiring so it looks ok? A standard Jbox attached to the bottom of the beam is kind of ugly. The light has a standard cover that would cover a junction box that is flush to the ceiling, but it is not deep enough to cover the full depth of a box hanging from the bottom of a beam.
you could mortise a pancake box into the beam, if it were ok to drill into the bottom of the beam. I wouldn't expect that a 3"x1/2" deep hole would be a problem in a 6x14 beam but I don't know the rules on that. You could drill diagonally through the beam from the pancake box up into the ceiling space (behind the drywall) to conceal the wire.
