Motor Wiring Reverse Switch

I need some assistance with the wiring of a Dayton 6K324BA 1.5HP motor to a dpdt switch for reversible operation. It has 7 wires coming from the motor (yel/blk, red, brown, orange, black, white, and yellow). i purchased a 3 position (on/off/on) toggle switch to handle this. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/POW...e-Switch-2VLP1

any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Look at the switch contact arrangement. You want to interchange the "red and the "black" leads to change rotation. Both leads are used in each direction. They are just swapped back and forth to accomplish forward and reverse. See the note on the nameplate? Do you have the contact layout for the switch. Draw it on paper and do the connections on paper before you connect the power.

I don't completely follow. Can you describe what the connections would be and/or sketch a diagram?

Motor Wiring Reverse Switch

Find out where the black terminates and where the red terminates. Lets try an example as this is very hard to explain in this format.

This how it is wired right now.

Black terminates on terminal number 6
Red terminates on number 4

1) In forward black terminates on number 6 and red terminates on number 4
__________________________________________________ _____________

2) To reverse: black terminates on number 4 and red terminates on number 6
__________________________________________________ _____________

All we are doing is moving or interchanging each wire from it terminal using the switch.
I can try and draw it for you. Let me see what I can do.

Used to do this all the time with DC motors wish I could draw good diagrams. You could wire the starter to one side of the switch then run a jumper over to the other side of the switch but reverse the wires and connect the middle of the switch to the motor.

I think what the OP is trying to do is wire the motor so that the switch, in the up position, will run the motor in one direction, and in the down position will run the motor in the other direction. Not good at diagrams so I can not help here. I could do it if it were in front of me

Yes much easier to do than explain. Lots of things I can do but can't explain how to do it well.

Here is a scan of the connections. The two switches shown are the ONE (1) you have. The single terminal on each switch are the commons on your switch. Center (middle) terminal post. Then connect as shown.
Sorry about the quality of the scan. I am a first time user.
