Motion Sensor Security Light Doesn't Work in Cold

I installed a Heath motion sensor security light on my porch last summer. It worked like a champ, range was good, turned on and off when it was supposed to, etc..

When we started to get cold weather, the auto function seemed to stop working and the light stays on continuously. I've read that the motion sensors can fail on in cold weather, but I haven't heard why. Anybody know what the deal is?

What kind of bulb you have in your motion luminaire ??

If CFL type they will take pretty long time to lit up but with indenscent bulbs or halogen type they should come on pretty fast.

The other possiblty the lens may fogged up as well I have see it once a while but not very often I just got back few minutes ago replace one in France ( we did have super cold snap slam in here ) one did have some coating of ice in there and fail to come on.

Merci,
Marc

It has halogen bulbs. I can flip the lights on and off manually and they come right on.

I cleaned the sensor, still no go. The light stays on all day, on bright sunny days.

The only other thing I can think of is power surge did kill the sensor unit or it got killed when the bulb burn out ( that can happend )

Did you any chance did you double check the switch below the sensor if you have on test mode or X numbers of minutes on it if you left it on test mode that can cause to be stuck on due it can bypass the photosensor.

Call the Heath tech dept to see what they can come up with something due that is pretty new unit.

Merci,
Marc

Good thoughts. Definitely not a problem with the settings - it is set to auto, range to minimum. It should shut off but it doesn't.

Come to think of it, when the auto feature failed coincided with some storm-related power outages in late August. Maybe that is the issue. It was the cheap motion light at the local box store, so no big loss. I can't swap out the sensor so I would have to replace the whole unit.
