I am completely perplexed by my new motion sensing security lighting. Several weeks ago I had an electrician install the light with a switch in the bedroom. The first light would never turn off, even after trying countless times to "reset it." I installed a new light today, figuring maybe the original had a bad sensor. It has been on nearly all night now. I put the sensitivity to the lowest level and time at 1 minute. It is pointed over my fenced in back yard (ie no deer or small animals setting it off) yet turns on for several minutes, turns off, and a couple minutes later turns back on.
If anyone has any ideas, power surges etc, please let me know. Other brands that work better (both have been heath zenneth) I'm open to suggestions.
The light and switches is a state machine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finite-state_machine
that goes from the "light always on" state to the "motion detecting state" depending on the position of the switch mounted on the light and the position and timing of the on/off switch.
Study the description in the owner's manual of how to get into all of the different states.
It's not just switch positions; it's also how long you stay in each position. What is confusing is that the light has "a primitive internal memory" and timers.
And anything moving within the "cone of detection" can trigger it.
