motion detector wiring (alarm systems)

I have added an ADEMCO 998PI Motion Detector next to a room that has the same ADEMCO Motion Detector in the other room next door. The new motion detector that I added is linked to the other motion detector by wire (phone wiring type wire that has the typical red, black, green, yellow wires-both also have the same resistors set the same way). Both motion detectors light when you walk in front of them, however the newly added detector won't set my alarm off (only the motion detector in the other room will set the alarm off when you walk in front of it). My question is:

Is there something that needs to be done with my alarm company to add this motion detector to the zone that the other motion detector is on? or Could there be something I need to do wire wise to make the newly added motion detector (which is at the end of the chain) be able to set the alarm off like the other motion detector does?

Read the instructions which came with the detector to be sure you don't have it in a test mode.

Test your wiring with a continuity tester or ohm meter.

There will typically be a circuit which "opens" to activate the alarm.

Here is how to use a continuity tester...

Do this with the wiring disconnected from the alarm.

Then learn about series wiring and parallel wiring. You want these wired in series...

Series...
(Ignore the resistance part below)

Parallel wiring...

Thanks Billy Bob. I will take a look at those things tomorrow and post again if I'm still having trouble.

motion detector wiring (alarm systems)

Very simple I do alarms everyday. On your original motion detector take off either the green or yellow wire. Just one of them. Let's say you took off the green wire. Now from your new motion you are going to have a yellow and green wire don't worry about the power wires yet. take the yellow from the new motion and splice the green from the old and the yellow from the new together. than put the new green wire in place of the old green. For the power wires just put red to red and black to black on the old motion. You need to put them on series to make them work separately. Hope this helps. If not I can draw it out for you.
