mixing ballasts in a string of lights

I was working on a string of 10 fluoresents light fixture all wired together. All the fixtures had t12 ballasts and lights except one had a t8 ballast and lights third from the end. The string of lights were arcing at the end with a bad ballast. Would the t8 ballast cause problems in a line of t12 ballasts. Any help appreciated.

Shouldn't make a difference what size ballasts are on the same circuit.

you have a bad ballast, but mixing fixtures on a circuit is not an issue.
