Metal box clamps wont hold down nm

Hey guys I'm wiring an outlet under my house for a sump pump and needed a junction box for some slack so I bought a metal box with the clamps already in it but when I tighten it down all the way I can still pull out the 12awg nm. Isn't that what the clamps are for? They won't hold it in.

If you have a metal box with "X" clamps in it, you are using the wrong type of box, or the wrong wiring method.

As Speedy pointed out, a nice close-up picture would be in order here.

However, if you properly fasten the nm cable within 12" of the box, then it's highly unlikely the wire will pull out on its own in any case ....

Also I just bout this box and cover and I couldn't find a box with four screw holes for the cover. Will this box and cover pass inspection? Thanks!

What I do with those clamps is tighten them down all the way before putting the cable in. Then loosen it and put the cable in and snug down. NOT too tight though.

You only use two holes with those covers. They have four holes so you can rotate them 90 deg if need be.
