low voltage wiring for niche lighting

I was in a hurry hanging drywall, specifically rocking a wall niche for our new basement bathroom (drywall finisher started Wednesday morning). I hoped to install a low voltage accent light such as a recessed LED, Xenon or halogen light fixture at the top of the wall niche. I never had a chance to buy the light but I did have leftover 18 AWG low voltage wire for a future fireplace switch. So I ran a length of low voltage 18 AWG wire from the spot above the wall niche to where I'll install the transformer. Is 18 AWG OK? Does anyone have any recommendations for some good LED spot lighting for a 9"D x 11"W x 36"H wall niche? There is only about 2 1/2 inches above the drywall for a fixture, I think my best option is a shallow, very low voltage LED puck light but the ones at the local hardware stores are not recessed, more for under cabinet lighting.

Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!:)

I forget the exact current capability for 18AWG, but it's probably around 6 amps. Better make sure what those low voltage fixtures require; if LED you're probably OK.

I hope you didn't bury the 18g in the wall unless it is rated for in wall use

It is CL2 in-wall rated.

I found this website, http://www.pegasusassociates.com/. A few LED or Xenon light options that are shallow depth.
