Low Voltage Cabinet Lighting Recommendations

Hey there. I've been looking around on-line for a low-voltage cabinet light but haven't found quite what I'm looking for. Perhaps, based on my following description, someone out there may be familiar with a product that will fit the application.

I am building two built-in cabinet/shelf units that will flank my new fireplace. Originally I was going to install a recessed can light in front of each for general illumination but I realized that this will create a lot of shadows due to the shelving. I then started thinking about using the puck lights but most are powered via a cord with an in-line thumb switch and are powered via a plug connector which is NOT what I want. Soooo, here are the criteria:

1. I'd like to recess the lights to some degree in the bottoms of the shelving. Since the shelving will be stationary (not height adjustable), I plan on drilling cable holes through the shelves to hide the wiring. The lights themselves would be mounted in recessed holes created with Forstner bits. Obviously, running wires through holes in the wood (no conduit) would require low voltage wiring.

2. I'd like to have the lights be permanently wired to their power source and operable via a standard wall switch and perhaps a dimmer.

3. I'm guessing that some sort of 120:24v or 12v transformer would be involved. This could be installed inside one of the two cabinets for convenience and accessibility. Although in #2 I indicated a desire to have the power be hardwired, at the end of the day I would not be against installing a switched receptacle in the cabinet and simply plugging the transformer in if this increases my options. Either way, my plan involves having an opening in the rear of the cabinet for a 1900 box.

If anyone has a line on a product or URL offering such a beast, I'd love to hear!

Thanks,
Jimmy
