Locate wiring in walls

Hi;
Does anyone know of anything that will detect electrical cables (mostly metallic) in the walls?
When I Googled the subject, I found a post somewhere that said electricians use a compass. But I don't expect this would work with a cable that uses a steel jacket.
Most of the wiring in my old house is Armored, and I believe that it is steel.
That would most likely prevent the magnetic field from getting out.

I will try the compass anyway though.

Edit:
I tried the compass, and as I had expected it did not work at all, on either AC or NM cable.
Since both the conductors are in the same cable, the net magnetic field is zero.
Way back when I was a kid living in a home with knob and tube wiring, I could always pick up the wiring in the walls using a telephone pickup connected to my tape recorder.

I guess I will be looking for something that will locate anything metallic.

There are stud finders that will also find cable, duct work etc.

MinConst is right one Zircon has one, don't know how well it works. I have a smaller and older version that's supposed to locate wires...and it works fair. I would think newer stuff would scan deeper and better.

I have an electronic stud finder. I'll see what it can do.
Thanks
