Lights Work without a breaker!?
I have attic lights that work that are not hooked up to any breakers.
We tried turning off every single breaker and the lights still remained lit.
The only time they would go out was when we turned off the main.
Any idea how this could be hooked up? We're totally baffled by this one.
Obviously, I want to have it on a breaker for safety reasons.
Were you flipping off the breakers one at a time?
I'll bet that the circuit is miswired and is actually controlled by two breakers.
Turn off ALL breakers---see if it goes off and then come back and tell us.--Mike---
Or look for another panel that may contain the breaker that controls these lights.
Thanks for your input guys. As soon as i can I'll try turning ALL the breakers off (except the main) at the same time and see if it stays lit. If it does, I guess that means it's likely hooked up to the "bus bar"? If it doesn't, I guess by flicking one breaker on, seeing if the lights go on, noting result from breaker, then flicking it back off again and reiterating these steps for all breakers, I'll be able to eventually determine which multiple breakers may be feeding the circuit.
The only constant I currently have is that when I flick off the main in that particular box, the lights go out... And that when I turn each one off one at a time in that box (except the main), that the light stays on.
I'll let you guys know what happens when I turn all the individual ones off at the same time as soon as I can.
