Question

lights wont turn on

hey guys,

New to this forum. Well. I just installed a new 100 amp main breaker panel(not a sub panel) and cant get the lights to work. There is power all the way to the light fixture but when I pull the string nothing turns on. Can anyone tell what I'm doing wrong.

well, do you have a voltmeter? If so, remove the lamp from the socket and check for power from the center tab of the socket to the shell. If nothing, then pull the string and check again.

If nothing still, remove the fixture and check for power form the incoming hot to ground and from the hot to the neutral. If you show power there, it is probably the switch.

before you do any of this, make sure you have a good lamp in the fixture. Check it in another fixture first to be sure it is good.

How do you know you have power to the lights? Could be you lack neutral.
