Lights turn on. No power to wall outlets

The problem occurred sometime around Christmas, and I had plugged in a trickle charger and 2 30ft strings of icicle lights onto this one wall outlet. Now, I have no power from the two outlets in the garage or the one outside connected to the garage. The last time that I used the outlets, they all worked just fine. Now I have nothing.
The circuit breaker was not tripped, but the most unusual thing is I can still turn on the garage light. I turned off the breaker for the garage and the garage light turned off. I switched the breaker back on and the light came back on, and still have no power to any of the outlets. I would prefer to not have to call an electrician to pay money for a diagnosis and find out it was something that I can do.
Has anyone had this problem or have any idea what it could be?
Thanks for your help.

Have you checked to see if a GFI has tripped? These are common on receptacles in garages and for exterior receptacles.

you dont say if the outlet that the trickle charger was plugged into still works ?
The light in the garage could be on a different circuit to the outlets.
So most likely is a tripped gfci !
or loose connecttion.
Do you know the wiring lay out ?
And where the non functioning oulets get there power from ?
Is it a dedicated breaker ?
Or is it tacked onto an existing circuit somewhere ?

..... Your a freaking genius and I am an idiot. THANK YOU!!! That was it. It looks like that all my outlets are connected. I have one GFI outlet in the garage and of course it has to be the one outlet that I'm never around and never use.

All donations to the genius fund graciously accepted.
