I'm doing some remodeling in my basement and want to add some recessed lights. When I cut open a hole in the ceiling to put the cans in, I found the hot and cold lines for the bathroom in the basement. They are running in the airspace between the 2 joists, not perpendicular to the joists.
Is it a code violation to have the electrical boxes and lights in the same joist space as the water line? Does that circuit need to be on a GFI breaker?
If either the lights or the pipes need to move, then so be it, I just want to do it right.
