Lights come on when i plug in the vacuum

The overhead lights come on when i plug in the vacuum, at my business. The lights only come on when the vacuum is plugged in. They do not come on when i turn on the switch.

What kind of lights are they? Are you saying that you have lights that are totally useless because you normally can't get them to turn on with the switch?

I would have to guess that the vacum is completing the circuit. Since this is a commercial building, you will meed a licensed electrician to check it out.

Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?

I think you've got a crossed neutral. When you plug in The vacumn your backfeeding the lights through the neutral. That's my best guess without more info.

Or a bad neutral, if the vacuum draws much more current than the lights.

If just plugging in a turned off vacuum makes the lights come on, you need an exorcist.

The loose connection might be in the receptacle that the vacuum get plugged into.
