Question

Lighting for stair risers

I am familiar with the rectangular-shaped outdoor deck lighting that is mounted directly to stair risers. I am referring to the kind that has the little fins that angle downward (about 3" x 5" or so). However, I am looking to install similar lighting on a couple stair risers that I will have on a platform riser in my media room. These stairs will be carpeted. Are there special lights for stair risers when carpeting will be used over the stairs? I am thinking that these will need to be mounted with about 1/2" - 3/4" gap between the light and the stair riser so that it ends up flush with the carpeting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look for "step lights"

There are many variations in size, lamp type and voltage.

Plan on using LED lights to avoid heat issues effecting the carpets.
